A Good Girl- Aria Aber
30th June 2025
Stumbled across another wee gem at the library—Aria. It’s about a girl figuring out who she is, which feels super relatable, especially for young people trying to find their place in the world. She’s got immigrant parents and is growing up in Berlin, so there’s a lot going on. She ends up diving into the party scene and getting tangled up in a tricky love situation.
One thing that really stood out to me was how shame plays a big role in the choices we make—especially the messy ones. I reckon shame drives a lot of the destructive stuff we do as humans. There’s heaps about this in one of my fave books, She Is Not Your Rehab, which is also an awesome Aotearoa-based organisation. More on that little powerhouse of a book soon!
